You've seen many Martial Arts pictures on the net. They can look stunning.
For us at DoJoTV, what's often missing is facial expressions. What you're thinking and feeling is often written on your face in important moments and martial arts is no different.
Martial Artists often put their 'DoJo' faces on when in the zone, but we're often there when they really let go!
We didn't expect expressions of joy. What emotion do you experience when doing martial arts that surprises you?
Jo also writes a blog about her Martial Arts journey over at www.jomorrell.co.uk
The first few weeks of shooting Inside MA are over and wow, what an experience. Here are some of the things we've been dealing with;
New Equipment. Well, you cannot start a TV channel without some new toys right? One in particular is a strange contraption that essentially holds the camera steady while you zip around nimble martial artists! The camera team assured us it was well worth the investment and its called a Ronin, so in that way the name fits! You'll see both what that looks like and some results over the next few weeks. Keep an eye on Facebook and Instagram.
Inside MA Show Format. It's a fine balance between capturing the essence of a style and creating a 'show' of what the club is about. A few shoots in and we're already becoming more efficient at that, but keen to keep flexible as we encounter the rich diversity out there. We'll be covering this in more detail later in the summer with 'how we make Inside MA'.
Collaboration. This is a project built on sweat. There are no investors. There is no commerce model. We're happy for that to continue for quite some time until we know the martial arts community better and can create something you value and wish to see continue. With that in mind, we'll be drawing on the martial arts community and our followers. There will be surprises and rewards, so ensure you keep an eye on our social media output and if you haven't yet - complete our survey
The big Ta Dar! moment. In our experience, if you beaver away behind closed doors and then tell the world you're ready, the best you can expect is tumbleweed and the worst is well you know! So, we're creating the channel in front of you and open to talk, meet and include your voice. We mean that, but bear in mind no one is paying us.
Bumps in the road? Yes. Fully expected and welcomed. We are keen to develop our own 'Kung Fu' in developing a kick ass Martial Arts channel. As you know when training, you sometimes have to take a step back to move forward, but most of all you need to keep training and learning. That's us right now and we're loving it!
With all that in mind, what keeps us passionate and curious comes from days like below;
