DoJoTV attended last week's 2nd International Martial Arts Studies conference in Cardiff. We met, interviewed and drank beer with! people from Switzerland, Germany, Japan, America, Singapore, New Zealand, Jordan, Israel, Italy, Canada and of course the UK.
The concept of the Martial Arts Studies initiative based like us in Cardiff, is to encourage cross discipline debate about martial arts to foster new learning, develop new lines of practical research and encourage connections not usually made. Saying that, what an excuse to bring together such a diverse mix of people for 3 days to discuss the positive force of martial arts. There is much more to Cardiff University's Martial Arts Studies than just the conference - click here for more or on the picture below.
Every delegate had their own professional and personal perspective on martial arts and this came through strongly in the interviews. In the spirit of our own survey, we also asked delegates why they go 'into' martial arts and what 'benefits' they enjoy - which like our own survey shows martial arts means something special and different to everyone. If you haven't completed it, please do and leave your details if you would like an extended conversation with us and possible interview.
All the intervews we did during the conference (and a few glimpes of speakers in action) will be available on this website in August. In the meantime, here is a short clip of our chat with Tamiaho Herangi-Searancke from New Zealand;
